Memorial Day Weekend

David, Hayley and I had a wonderful, fun-filled Memorial Day weekend. Matt, on the other hand, worked the entire weekend and then had to get on a plane this morning to go to New York City for the entire week. As much as we missed Matt, it was nice to spend the time with Aunt Hayley before she heads out to Austin.

On Saturday morning, Hayley, Kristen and I went on a girl's shopping trip. We got lots of stuff for Kristen's upcoming wedding, including new swimsuits and dresses to wear while in Mexico. I am so excited about going down to Mexico for both her wedding and our vacation in July.

On Sunday, Hayley and I took David rolling skating for the first time. He did pretty good..although he didn't really ever get the hang of skating. He did think falling was pretty pretty fun and finally figured out that he could lock his knees and let Hayley and I pull him along. I think it will take a few more trips for him to get the hang of it, but definitely a fun first time.

After David's nap on Sunday, we headed out to the back yard to play with moon dough (a Christmas gift that we found is too messy to play with in-doors).  Matt came out to take pictures as we were making silly faces.

On Monday morning, Hayley and I took David to Hawaiian Falls - a waterpark in Garland. It was crowded, but we had lots of fun. David especially enjoined the snowcone.

On Monday afternoon, we went over to Lila's house to play on the slip-n-slide with the neighborhood crew. It was a great end to a perfect long holiday weekend.

Our First Incident Report

I didn't get a chance to blog about this last week, but David got his very first incident report last week at school (see below). We were shocked! David is such a sweet kid and the teachers have all raved about how nice he is to his friends. A few weeks ago, however, he sort of discovered other kids existed. I think we made the official switch from parallel play to full out interaction with other children. With that comes the good and the bad. David is the youngest in his class, so he has been hanging out with the older boys. They seem to pick up each other's bad habits. David starting hitting everything and everyone with his hands saying "bam, bam, bam." So, last Wednesday, when I picked up David - I got the below report. I went into intervention overdrive - I immediately went to half-priced books and bought every book on hitting they had. We read "Hands are not for Hitting" about 20 times ant alked a lot about how it makes our friends sad if we are not nice to them. I guess it worked because the rest of the week, we got great reports from the teachers. On Friday when I picked him up, David walked up and said "Mommy, I did not hit my friends."

Our Little City Garden and Other Neighborhood Shennigans

David and I made a little garden in our backyard last weekend. Not sure how it is going to work out, especially since I have a feeling we planted things a little too late, but it has been a fun projects (and maybe Grandma Gil can offer us some pointers?). Each night we have gone out to check on the plants and David has been in charge of the watering. We also got a bird feeder that we put in the first yard that has been very popular- both with birds and squirrels. They have been cleaning it out about three time a week. It is like a zoo out there. Great purchase (Even if Matt complains about the birds popping on our cars).

Lila, our neighbor that is David's friend, is required to wear a helmet when she rides her scooter. I sort of think it is overkill, but David decided that he wanted one too. A friend at work gave me some ski clothes that her son outgrew, including a ski helmet. So here he is.....David riding his scooter around the cul-de-sac in his ski helmet.

A lazy Sunday morning:

The Bad News

We have been dealing with terrible news the last few weeks. My best friend and the only other person that has been involved in David's life on a daily basis - Aunt Hayley - is moving. She got a new job in Austin and will be moving down there at the end of the month. As much as I know I will miss her, I am not that worried about our friendship. Despite living in separate cities in the past, we have always remained great friends. David, on the other hand, and Hayley are quite the buds. We don't have any other family that lives in Dallas and, for the most part, the family we do have don't visit very often (or ever in some cases). It is pretty hard to have our jobs and not have anyone around to help. All that has not been a problem the last 2.5 years because Hayley has been here. She treats David like her own and is always up for watching him to let Matt and I have a break. She really makes us feel like we have a support network. And she is leaving. It is very sad. We are really going to miss her. We have tried to prepare David for her leaving, but I don't think he will really understand until he doesn't see her for a few days. We do wish Aunt Hayley the best of luck with her new job and her move (although I have already told her that I hope she hates it and moves back).

Here are some of our fun Hayley times lately:

We went to a concert at the Arboretum, where they have the amazing Chihuly exhibit. It was gorgeous and so much fun. David ran around and danced and we had a little picnic dinner of yummy greek food. Great night!

This is the Hawaiian outfit that Aunt Hayley brought David back from her vacation trip to Hawaii. How cute is this?

Rangers Fun

We also went to a Rangers game a few weeks ago to see how David would do. We have been contemplating buying season tickets, but wanted to make sure David was old enough to enjoy it this year. He did! Even with a two hour rain delay, David had a blast. They added a new kid zone at the Rangers stadium that is pretty awesome - it kept David occupied throughout the entire rain delay. He also enjoyed the popcorn. A Lot. He ate an entire box of popcorn after we went back to our seats to watch the end of the game. It was so much fun and we are excited about going to more games. And since we finally bought a season ticket package that starts in June...we will be going to lots and lots of games.

Summer is Here

The summer is almost here and we have been busy trying to enjoy all of the nice weather before the dreadful heat gets here. It has been a while since I posted, so we have lots of updates.

We have made a few trips to the zoo over the last few weeks. I only remembered the camera on the last trip..but it was a good thing because we had a huge break through - David rode the carousel! Despite the fact that he has no fear with respect to almost anything else (including riding his tricycle down the big hill coming into our cul-de-sac at full speed and running into the curb and bouncing off laughing the whole time) he has not been willing to give the carousel a try. He is always interested in it and we have waited in line a few times, but he never got up the courage to get on. Well, this time, we did. It was a close call before the ride started. I was standing next to him and already buckled him onto the Gorilla when he looked up at me with a look of absolute terror. He starting asking to get off, but the ride was about to start and I tried to reassure him that he would enjoy it. I am glad I did because he ended up loving it. He wanted to ride it again and again.

Here is the look of terror:

Still not entirely sure:

Now he is having fun:

Here are general pictures from the zoo trip Our zoo has a new Koala bear exhibit that is pretty cool and we all love feeding the giraffes.
