Happy Day Before Easter

On Good Friday, we got up early and went to the Dallas Arboretum. They were having lots of activities for the kids, including a concert in the park. We enjoyed having lunch outside and listening to the kid's music and then walking around the arboretum. David really enjoyed the pioneer houses display this time. He went in every house, laid on the bed, checked out the kitchen tools and looked out every window. It was such a nice day.

On Saturday, we headed down to Wortham after Little Gym to visit with my family. Papa Lane and Diana had an Easter egg hunt for the kids and made a nice lunch for everyone. We then headed out to the Ranch to visit with my mom's side of the family.

After the Easter egg hunt, the kid's heard an ice cream truck making the rounds around Wortham. It was pretty cool. David had no idea what everyone was so excited about until he realized ice cream was involved.

I took David for a ride on the 4-wheeler out of the ranch. We just went around the yard, but he spent the whole time saying "this is so much fun, mommy!"

Happy Good Friday

The Easter festivities have begun. Yesterday, David's school held an Easter egg hunt for the kids. Matt and I got there a few minutes late, so we missed the bulk of the actual Easter egg hunt (turns out, the eggs go fast with 40+ toddlers), but we got to hang out with David and the other kids as they checked out the scored goods and talked to the Easter bunny. Here are the pictures:

We tried to sneak in so as to not disturb the Easter egg hunt (we figured David would not participate if he saw us beforehand). When we spotted him, he was just casually looking around...

Sitting up on the hill checking out the goods

This is Ms. Loree - the director of the school. She is so super sweet and nurturing - exactly who you would want in charge of a school.
David checking to make sure no eggs were missed under the cave.

He did much better with the Easter bunny than he did with Santa Claus, but he was not going to look at the camera. He didn't quite trust that bunny enough to look away.

Family and Fun

I have lots of catching up to do. The weather, with the exception of yesterday (which I will discuss later), has been amazing, so the Waterman family has been outside a lot. Since going flex-time at work, I leave everyday around 4:30 or 5pm to pick up David. We then walk or jog to the park to enjoy an hour or so before dinner. After dinner, Matt, David and I go for a walk or go up to the lake to feed the ducks and walk across the bridge. If David had his way, we would sleep outside. Typically, by the time we get back home, there is just enough time to take a bath, brush our teeth and get ready for bed. So..I have a couple of weeks worth of blogging to catch up on...

Isabel and Mr. Lew (as David calls him) came by to visit last weekend. When walking them out, David got inside Ms. Isabel's new red car. He thought this was just about the coolest thing he had ever done.

David has now learned to ride his tricycle. His favorite thing to do is go to the top of the hill coming into our cul-de-sac and ride down going super fast.

The weekend before last, Matt and I went to the St. James silent auction benefiting David's school. One of the many items that we won at the auction was the class project made by Ms. Coral and Ms. Martha's class. It is a picture made out of the kids fingerprints with each kid having a different color. When we got home and David saw it, he was so excited to tell us that he made it for us. His pride in showing us his fingerprint made the purchase truly worth every penny.

The Sunday after the auction, we went to visit my family in Corsicana. We met up again at the park near Grandma Gil's house and had lunch together. It was such a fun visit and so great to see everyone.

I have been on a popcorn kick lately and David has decided to join in.

After dinner the last few nights, when it is still daylight, we go up to the lake to feed the ducks. A few weeks ago, Matt helped David "climb" a tree...which now is all he wants to do. I swear - the kid is scared of nothing.

Other updates:

Yesterday, approximately 13 tornadoes hit the Dallas area. It was the first time I have ever been terrified by storms. Let me explain.... shortly after lunch the tornado sirens started going off near downtown. I tuned into the local news station via my work computer and realized that the tornado was projected to hit very close to David's school. I freaked out. Although it was scary to think about it hitting downtown, my building is extremely safe (especially since you just go to the parking garage). I have no clue about David's school. I never thought to ask about their storm preparation plans. I called and spoke to the director who was literally in the process of moving the kids to the hallway. They woke up all the toddlers from their naps to move them to a safe area in the church and, as you can imagine, the kids were crying and it sounded very chaotic. After hearing that, I was just a mess. David is such a finicky kid (and he doesn't handle transition very well), so I just imagined how scared he must have been.  I sat and listened to the news trying to figure out if the tornado they were tracking did in fact head in the direction they projected. It turns out that it did not, but with the number of storms...it was hard to get that information for sure. I will say - in terms of the difficulties of being a working mother, being stuck far away from your child when there is a threat of natural disaster is by far the most difficult. I left shortly after hearing that the tornado near Dallas headed east to go get David. They had all the kids in the Parish hall and David was just fine. He didn't even seem to notice that there was a storm outside or that his routine had been disrupted. Thankfully, no one in the DFW area was severely injured in all the storms, which is pretty amazing given all the damage.
