The Birthday Weekend

We had a big weekend with lots of birthday celebrations and family time. David's birthday party was on Saturday afternoon and all of his favorite family members came into town to celebrate. We found the coolest place for the party - Children's Corner at Park Lane Ranch. They have a petting zoo, ponies and put up a bounce house for the party. The kids were able to walk right into the pins to pet and play with the animals, which included rabbits, sheep, goats, two ponies and chickens (all of which seemed a little too calm given that a hoard of toddlers were chasing them around. I think they must get a nice dose of benadryl before each party). I think everyone had a great time and we are so thankful that so many great friends and family showed up to help us celebrate. I owe special thanks to Aunt Hayley who stayed up most of Friday night with me making fruit, veggie and sandwich trays (with everything cut into Mickey Mouse shapes) and then who got up super early to go with me to get the cake, balloons and then to decorate the location and set-up food.

Tell me this guy doesn't look like he has a little dose of tranquilizer

Cinnamon, the pony, was petty awesome. The bigger kids enjoyed the pony rides. David had no interest in riding the pony, but did sit on him when he was tied up.

Matt playing in the bounce house with the kiddos. He is such a great Dad..

David was a big fan of birthday cake.

After eating his piece, he kept sneaking back over to the table to get icing off the cut pieces.

Blair got David a build a bear named Ranger who is pretty adorable...

After the birthday celebrations, we planned to have David nap for a while and then go to the State Fair. Thanks to the cake and all the extra icing he ate, the nap was not happening. So we headed to the State Fair via the Dart train with all the family and four kiddos- David, Paytin, Colton and Kenzie. Growing up we never went to the State Fair, but it was a big thing for Matt and his family to go each year. When Matt and I were dating, we would go up to OKC to go with his family and it was always so much fun. Last year, we went to the Texas State Fair after David's first birthday party. It was a disaster - mainly because David HATED crowds. He screamed nonstop until we got him the heck out of there. We decided it would be a nice tradition to go to the State Fair every year after his birthday party, so we tried it again this year. David did great (shocking since it didn't have a nap at all), but turns out the fair gets crowed and a little rough after dark. I think we will be changing the tradition to the Sunday morning after his birthday party.  Despite the crowds, we managed to watch the parade and part of a show, eat some (or lots of) fried food, let the kids ride a few rides and generally have a great time.
