Happy Memorial Day

Papa Bruce, Granny D and Uncle Luke came down from Oklahoma City to visit us this weekend. We had such a good time! They got here on Saturday and we had a great dinner at Mi Cocina..and, of course, everyone caught up on their peanut time. On Sunday, we went to Top Golf (part driving range, part video game and lots of fun), had another great dinner at Picasso's, another Lake Highlands favorite, and then had a fun Game night (including a pretty competitive game of Taboo).

David is working diligently on mastering this whole self feeding thing. Cereal puffs are one of his favorite things right now....although we're currently operating at about a 50% rate of success in getting them in the mouth. This puff was wet and sticky from David trying to get it into his mouth and... he just could not figure out where it went.

Baby Sign Lanauge and Everyday Life

A few weeks ago, we bought the baby sign language program. Supposedly, you can lessen frustration by teaching your baby sign language so they can communicate before they can talk. I don't know if it will work (and acknowledge that the claims are probably just a shameless attempt to get you to spend money on the program), but we figured we would give it a shot...... So, the program came with these DVD's that show you the signs and we have been working through a few each day and trying to incorporate them into our daily lives. Isabel is great about working with David on his signs. It is quite amazing how intently Peanut watches the videos. Here are some pictures:

I haven't posted much the last few weeks, as work has been pretty busy, so I thought I would just post some random shots that Isabel took last week.

Trip to Austin

We went down to Austin this weekend to attend "Aunt" Keri's graduation. Keri is a really great friend of mine that I have known since 3rd grade. The trip down was a bit of a struggle as it took us a little over 6 hours due to the bad weather on Friday and lots and lots of traffic. David dislikes, no hates, being in the car, so not much fun... But, after we got out of the car (and in David's mind, removed him from the torture device known as a carseat), we had a really good time hanging out with Keri and her family and friends. David was awesome through the entire graduation ceremony. He was even good through a quite lenghty speech by Powers Booth (Curly Bill from Tombstone) which has to be the worst commencement speech ever (it included a 15 minute rambling about Powers time in communist Russia...from which the only connection we could make to current life is that he took up the Russian habit of drinking Vodka for breakfast). It was a great weekend and the trip back was much less stressful. Congratulations to Keri on her graduation!!

In other David news-- he is still struggling with his teeth coming in. The whole process seems painful and it is very sad to see peanut upset, but we now have two fully visible teeth (the two front ones on the bottom).

David and Keri's little guy Mason -- it looks like these two just got caught doing something bad!

A Major Break Through

We had a pretty great day here in Dallas. We started with a early morning walk to the park and visited with the neighbors. After David's morning nap (which amazingly he takes at the time when we use to get up on the weekends), we loaded up and headed to the White Rock Lake Festival. Not much for the very little ones there, so we went to the bookstore and Babies R'Us. All around pretty good day.

We also woke up to really big news this morning-- David's first tooth has officially broken through the gums (on the bottom). He was really fussy at dinner last night, but we didn't really see or feel anything. Somehow, during the night, a little tiny baby tooth appeared. It is just barely through the gums, but you can definitely see and feel it. Very exciting development!

We went to Black Eyed Pea, which was one of my favorite place to eat during the pregnancy (together with Luby's), for dinner. David really enjoyed the light above the table..so much so that I had to get the camera out. He was quite amused.

If you look away for just one second, peanut grabs anything and everything that is within his reach. He figured out that he could lean back and extend his reach by thrusting himself forward in the high chair.. hence, the ketchup bottle quickly became his dinner conquest. He was not happy about leaving it at the restaurant.
