Happy Birthday David

David turned 6 yesterday. How quickly the time has passed. We are amazed by him on a daily basis. He is compassionate and inquisitive and all-around awesome. Unless he is playing video games, one of his favorite activities, he wants to be engaged with people and is full of questions. He absorbs information quickly and has a strong sense of justice (which has only gotten more prevalent as he has learned to share with his younger brother). He still has weird ticks, which we find endearing, such as rubbing his nipple when he is thinking or blinking his eyes when he is trying to figure something out. He is almost as tall as me and seems to enjoy all sports.

Because David is at the age where birthdays are magical, we have planned celebrations for the entire week. We started with taking him to the OU/Texas game on Saturday. When Matt and I got married, I told him it was a condition of the marital arrangement that my children never wear OU gear. I have stuck with this... so David was a Longhorn and prepared to accept defeat with the rest of us. To our surprised, Texas won and David enjoyed talking lots of smack to his father. In true 6 year old fashion, he giggled every time they chanted OU sucks..  As always, Matt was a trooper and took it in good spirit.

At the beginning of the game = happy Matt

As the game continues = not so happy Matt

By the end of the game = sad face Matt

We went to the Lot after the game.. Henry ate a lot of sand

On Sunday, we went to the Nature and Science Museum

On Monday, Matt took David to the Ranger's playoff game.. it was hot and they lost, but I am told they still had a great time.

On Tuesday morning, we celebrated with donuts...

For his birthday dinner, David really wanted to have dinner in the "ball" (aka Reunion Tower). So.. we invited his friend William and made reservations. I didn't realize it was quite as fancy (and expensive) as it turned out to be.. but the boys had a blast.

Opening his gift...

Yep - that is a drone. Matt may enjoy it as much as David. We saw them at the fair and David was SOLD. Luckily, I found it on amazon for 1/3 the fair price.

We are having David's birthday party this Sunday and he is looking forward to seeing Granny D and Hayley and his cousins. Should be lots of fun!!

Boys will be boys -- the frog incident

David found a frog while on our evening walk with Ollie. He insisted on bringing it home, named it Frodie and wanted to keep it as a pet... luckily I convinced him to return him to his family outside.

Fair day

The kids were off school last Thursday and Friday for Fall break... so, being the awesome and brave mom that I am, I took off on Friday and took them to the fair. This was supposed to be a Waterman family fair day, but Matt had a deposition that he could not miss. We made a whole day out of it--- even took the Dart train to get there. I anticipated that we would only stay a few hours since Henry still naps, but we ended up staying all day. It helped that we ran into lots of St. James friends.

We met Matt for dinner and Henry passed out:
