Working Mom in Progress

Every year, at the end of the school year, the PTO host a Muffins with Mom event. Basically, it is a get together in the Parish Hall for the kids to -- you guessed it - have muffins with mom. I missed this event last year because I had just started my new job at Dean. And David reminded me all year that I missed it, so I was determined to make it this year. All the way to school on the morning of the event, David was so happy. He talked the entire way about how good the muffins were going to be. I don't know if he was more excited about me being there or the muffins...either way - it felt like a good bonding experience. And it would have been except for the fact that we got to the Parish Hall 5 minutes late and THEY WERE OUT OF MUFFINS.  David was devastated; his face melted and his eyes filled with tears. It was just horrible. So, despite it being the the busiest week of the year at work and me having a full day of meetings, I took him out of school and drove to a donut shop to try and make up for the missed muffins. I told him he could get whatever he wanted and watched as he scarfed down 3 donuts. In retrospect, I should have limited him to one considering we never ever allow him to eat donuts - like ever. But we were in damage control mode...  On the way back to school, I expected him to tell me it was the best morning ever. Instead, he looked at me with his big eyes and said - mom,"I am pretty sure I am going to throw up."

Summer in Seattle....

As most everyone reading this knows, it has rained - A LOT... Of the 13 scheduled baseball games this season, 10 have been cancelled because of rain. Despite the rain, we have been out and about with the boys lately and have even managed to get some use out of the pool (thanks for the heater).  So here is an update on our adventures:

This is the view from my office and the super cool hawk that hung out for a few hours right before Memorial Day.

Rainbow after one of the many storms

Picture of one of Henry's many many injuries. The kid is fearless and accident prone - a dangerous combo:

Henry standing on the chair - like I said, fearless...

Playing peek a boo during nap time... Henry was late to start talking, but he got "no nap" down pretty quickly.

The bathroom remodel continued for weeks longer than anticipated... I am sure the neighbors loved having this in the front yard. Classy..

I did not think it was possible for a kid to love water more than David, but Henry does. He loves it and is not at all phased by going under. It is actually scary how brave he is in the pool.

The bathroom remodel continued...

David and I took a trip to Jumpstreet during Henry's nap.. and his shoes got stolen. Seriously?

Oh yea - and this dude was riding a bull and making a fool of himself and I filmed it to send to Matt.

Henry - being Henry:

Trip to the zoo...

The bathroom remodel - close to done:

Sunday afternoon nap:

Birthday dinner with two of our favorite people.. including a very pregnant Kristen.

Dinner at a new Lakewood spot... Henry has hit his phase where he doesn't want to sit still. So this is Matt with Henry outside the window watching David and I eat:

Henry was helping me get ready for a cookout...  this is him eating raw corn:

Our good friends from OKC came down for Memorial day weekend and, despite the rain, we had a blast. Jake and Matt have been friends for almost 25 years and it was so much fun to see his two girls (who are extremely well behaved and lovely delicate little creatures) play with our boys (who are of the rough, demanding and aggressive breed). They all got along just wonderfully and we all really enjoyed the weekend. On Monday, Matt and the boys and I spent a wonder day in the house watching old movies and napping. It was one of the best weekends we have had in a long time...
