Henry had his two month check-up this past Friday. He now weighs 10 lbs 2 oz and is 22 inches long. This is the 25th percentile for two months and 50th percentile when adjusted for his early arrival...so he is catching up quite nicely. He is super alert and now smiling (which is so super cute)!! He is also getting a little better at sleeping at night. He still gets up every 4 hours to nurse, but he goes right back to sleep, so no complaints here.
We have been busy this month. David started a new season of soccer and baseball - which takes up an hour on each of Saturday and Sunday - usually followed by lunch at Jason's deli. We have also had a visit from Matt's parents over labor day and Karl and his wife Lisa last weekend (more on that below) and lots of birthday parties and school events. We are trying to make the most of our weekend time, especially now that the weather is getting a little nicer, so we have been out and about. Here are some pictures and updates:
First - some stories from David's teachers: Matt and I went to a conference this past Thursday with David's new teachers - Ms. Julia and Ms.Tamara. It was a chance for us to get to meet them and see the classroom and learn about the "works" they are doing this year. They were showing us around the classroom and said jokingly (without knowing our professions) that they call David the little lawyer because he has an explanation for everything (she did this while demonstrating his arms up explanation pose). Sounds like he takes his negotiating skills to school. As part of the primary program, they have show and tell on Fridays. David wanted to take a picture of baby Henry for his first week of show and tell. During circle time, each kid tells about what he or she brought. Mr. Julia said the kids found David's presentation especially amusing. He told them that baby Henry was in my tummy and then he "popped out"... he continued that he wasn't entirely sure how Henry "popped out" but that I went to the hospital and he thinks the doctor helped.
Here is the new baseball class. I think I already blogged about it, but David really loves it.
This past weekend, we took David to the Wiggles concert. He is probably a little too old, but he loves the silly songs on the radio...so we figured it was something to do on Sat afternoon. I think he really enjoyed the show, but you could not tell it by his reaction or participation. David is very reserved and refuses to do anything he considers silly (like, for example, dancing). Matt and I are clearly both that way, so it might be part genetic and part learned behavior... not sure, but he is quite the serious kid. At one point, he moved his head a little and tapped his foot.
David's current obsession is board games. He loves them. We play Chutes and Ladders and Candyland at least ten times every day. He has gotten really good at being happy for other people when they win, although he is still quite competitive (I am not sure where he gets it from, but I don't think we could beat it out of him if we tried - the kid likes to win). We just got some new games this weekend to add to the rotation - Cariboo, Sequence for Kids and Sorry!. He is still learning all the rules to Sorry!, but I think it is going to be a new favorite.
I am trying to make the most of my maternity leave and take David on some special outings in the afternoons. We went bowling last week. He is pretty good - check out the touchdown dance:
David and Hayley hunting dinosaurs one afternoon:
St. James was closed the Friday before last, so Hayley and I took David and Calla to the Nature and Science museum. It was nice to go during the school year when it was much much less crowded than the summer:
Henry taking in the museum:
After the trip to the museum on Friday morning, I came down with the worst case of mastitis and spent Friday night through the following Tuesday in bed with 103+ fever. I knew what it was pretty quickly as I got the same infection when breastfeeding David. I got in touch with my doctor and started antibiotics on Friday night, but it took a while for them to work and I had to go in on Monday for even stronger ones. It was not a fun weekend and poor Matt got stuck with both taking care of both kiddos and me. We had plan to go out with Matt's college roommate and his family who were in town from California for the weekend, but they ended up just coming over to the house. I was in bed and, as you can imagine, Matt had his hands full...so we didn't really get many pictures. Here are a few of David and Anna Marie:
That Sunday, Matt took David to Emma's birthday party (the daughter of some of our friends). David and Emma's brother - Braden - are best buds. We don't see them as often as we would like, but we should try to get together more because David and Braden have a blast together - as you can tell by how sweaty they are from all the running and playing:
Finally- some other random shots of park trips and Mr. Henry - who is just along for the ride for everything.
Henry is starting to develop his little personality. He is definitely not as strong-willed or high maintenance as David, but he is an intense little guy. He goes from sound asleep to "on my god, feed this baby right now" in about two seconds. He is also the nosiest baby ever- he snorts, grunts and farts constantly (including in his sleep, which I think he inherited from his daddy). Here are some pictures:
It is hard to believe that Henry actually wore this little outfit in the NICU:
Matt's parents and his brother/sister-in-law (Uncle Jake and Aunt Kim) came for a quick visit over the Labor Day weekend. They got to see how big baby Henry is getting and got to see David's very first T-ball practice (which he LOVED).
