Planets

As I might have mentioned, David is obsessed with the solar system - which means we read the planet book every night. He now knows all of the planets:

Donuts and Birthday Parties

In addition to buying a house over the weekend, we also had a full weekend of events. I started off the day with a run at the lake bright and early on Saturday morning. I have been training for a 5K in February, so I go with a running group 3 times a week. It is one of the "couch to 5K" training programs and it has been awesome for me.  After I got home, we took David to get a special treat - donuts. We never ever have donuts. It is just one of those things that we figure it is best to avoid altogether because they are so darn good, but so unhealthy. But we just heard back from them on the house and wanted to think it over and it seemed like donuts were the perfect thinking food (oh yeah, and I might have been crarving donuts).

David was a big huge fan of the donut:

It took about 5 minutes for the sugar rush to kick in and David was ready to run laps:

After donuts, we headed to Waco to celebrate Paytin's birthday. She is 8 - so hard to believe!! I managed to forget everything at the house, including her birthday gift and the camera. Here are a few pictures that Matt got on his phone. It was so much fun to see everyone and David loved playing with his cousins. It is hard to believe how fast the kids are all growing up.

On Sunday, we went to U-haul, to a truck and storage unit and started loading up the house. We have to get a lot of junk to storage so we can at least show the house. And- now that we are contractually obligated to buy another house - we finally found the motivation to get moving.  It was a lot of work and amazingly, David was quite helpful (although to be completely fair - Matt really did all the work. He was kind of a moving rockstar over the weekend. Clearly, two mortgage payments is quite motivating for him).

New Baby, New House, New Nanny

We have lots of news! First, we are expecting baby no. 2 in July. This one was a little bit of a shock to us. As some of you know, Matt has been going through a medical issue. As a side effect of both that issue and the treatment of that issue, we were told that our fertility had been impacted (i.e. wasn't possible) and that we would have to take some extra steps to get pregnant when we got ready to have baby no. 2. Well, life had different plans. After being in a state of shock for a few weeks, we are so ridiculously excited for our little miracle baby. Of course, that excitement was followed by the realization that we had to find a nanny and a new house (we were out of room with David - there is literally no room for baby 2 here). By the grace of God, my best friend, Hayley, was considering making a career change and had been considering a nanny position while she figured out her next career move. After a few light hearted jokes about her being our nanny, it all just came together. She is moving back to Dallas in June and is going to watch David for the summer and then new baby when I go back to work.  It is literally the best possible nanny situation for us. The hardest part of having David was going back to work and worrying about leaving him (which, in all fairness, was made a lot easier because Isabel was so wonderful). I am sure that is still going to be hard, but I will now be leaving him in the loving hands of someone that might as well be his adoptive mother. Hayley loves David as much as we do and has been the best "aunt" a kid could ask for - I am sure new baby will be the same. Since she moved to Austin, she has driven to Dallas at least once at month (even though she only gets one weekend a month off work) to see David (and, us, but really David). Seriously, there are no words to describe how excited I am to have her back in Dallas!!

We also signed a contract to buy a new house this past weekend. Assuming all of the inspections go well, we plan to close on March 28th (just in time for my B-day).  The house is perfect for us and is in a great elementary school district - which will come in handy in just a few years. Now, we just have to sell our house. Hopefully, we will not be the owners of two homes for very long!!

Final bit of news - we had our sono today and the doctor is pretty sure we are having another boy. We will get the genetic testing results back this week and will know the gender for sure - but, the sono tech seemed pretty sure (although they always give the necessary disclaimers since it is still early). The good news is that we already have all the boy gear. But I have to say that I am a little surprised. For some reason, I just felt like this was a girl. It is probably because I have been so sick the past few months (and I didn't have much morning sickness with David). Either way, it was so great to see that the baby is doing great and all the measurements are good.

Three Year Check-Up and Updates

I just realized that I never posted the results from David's three year checkup. So- as of last October - here is how our little guy is doing:

Weight - 35lbs (75th percentile but normal for his height)
Length - 38 3/4" (85th percentile)
BMI - 16.4 (55th percentile)

In general, David is a pretty awesome kid, but he definitely has some weird quirks. For example, he likes  to touch with his nipple when he is stressed (and by "like to" - I mean he must do so or risk the world ending). We actually have to plan his wardrobe around nipple access. And he is not only a nail bitter, he will also bite his toe-nails if given the chance (seriously, it is disgusting). And he likes to have things a certain way and can be quite persistent until he gets them that way (we have no idea where he got such controlling tendencies - I blame Matt because clearly all of mine are still intact). Despite all of his quirks, he is also the most loving and affectionate kid ever. His favorite thing to do is cuddle and give hugs and kisses. Despite having a "reserved" phase, he has now really come into his personality.  He talks to everyone - cashiers, people in the line, random people at the grocery store, kids at the museum - and he has lots to say and lots of questions to be ask (for a period of time, such questions often included whether said person has nipples - but we have finally convinced him that this is not an appropriate question to ask strangers).   It is great that others get to see the amazing personality that we have gotten to know the last few years. He is also full of facts - like he just called Matt into the bedroom to tell him that that apples are smaller than bananas and we don't touch the flame on candles because it would burn our hands. Totally helpful information.

Other current events and favorites:

Favorite books - Where the Wild Things Are; The Places You Will Go; Cat in the Hat; and any book about space. He is obsessed with the solar system. He spent a half hour or more at the space exhibit at the Nature and Science Museum watching the planet displays. We might have a little future astronomer or astronaut on our hands.

Favorite Question - What is [insert any object you can ever think of or see here] made of? He ask this about everything - peanuts, poo-poo, watermelon, meteorites, hair, people (these are the things he asked about today that I can remember)

Favorite Friend - William. William is in David's class and they are best buds. It is pretty much all about William. If David thinks William would do it, then he is all in. We have a "what would William do" line in our house.

Favorite Cartoon - Oso - the special agent bear. He also likes Phineas and Ferb and Olivia.

Happy Birthday Hayley

Hayley came up this weekend and we were able to celebrate her birthday a few days late. It was a great visit and David really enjoyed going to Benhiana for Hayley's birthday dinner. We also went to the new Nature and Science Museum (which is AWESOME!!) and the aquarium over the weekend. Very fun way weekend!!

A random picture I found -- Over the Christmas/New Year break, Matt let his beard grow out during the week and a half he was off work. It was cute at first, but after a week or so...he started to look a little shaggy. David was not a fan either - he thought it was pokey. I got a picture before he shaved it to go back to work (and the real world)!!

Happy New Year

We went over to Carol, Travis, Lila and Skylar's house tonight to ring in the New Year and the kids had a blast. Here is a little bit of their celebration (by the way- the theme song for Oso was not what was playing- but David decided that was what he was going to sing):

Happy New Year to everyone! I think 2013 is going to be a big and exciting year for us...
