Trick or Treat

We went trick-or-treating with our neighbor and good friends Lila, Skylar, Maddie and Vivian and then had dinner at Carol and Travis's place (Lila's parents). It was so much fun. When walking home, David said it was "the best Halloween ever."

When loading up Halloween pictures, I found this one. Last week when David was sick, all he wanted to do was sleep in my lap. He is almost too big, but for now I love that he can curl up in my arms like a baby and feel comforted. I kind of don't want him to outgrow that anytime soon.

Happy Halloween

Here is David at his school party today. The younger kids don't wear costumes to school, so we will not be turning into a superhero until later this evening. We plan to go trick-or-treating with Lila and Maddy in our neighborhood and then hand out candy (actually- I bought toy spiders, whistles and glow in the dark vampire teeth to hand out this year). Happy Halloween!!

Goodbye to Big Daddy

My grandfather passed away late on Friday night. We drove down to Mexia first thing on Saturday morning to be with the family and help make arrangements. David spent the entire day running around the ranch and the barn with the 14 great grandchildren that Big Daddy (what we called him) was survived by. The sad thing is - this was the first time was really old enough to run around and enjoy the country life. He had a blast. I am so sad that we have not been down there more to visit in the last few years. Between work and marriage and the kid, there is just never any time...so it seems. I am still trying to figure out how to make it all work. At this point, I am not sure if it is the fact we live a few hours away or because the particular careers we have chosen, but it seems hard to find the time to do anything these days. I am thinking we need to find a way to change that....

Here is a video that I put together for the funeral. Although I have not been around as much as I like the past few years, I grew up in the house next to my grandparents and they were such a big part of my life. It is so sad that they are both gone.

Happy Birthday David

This past Saturday, David turned 3! It is hard to believe how fast the last three years have gone by. David is just an amazing little guy and I love everything about this age. He has developed this robust personality and has a ton to say at all times. He has such a good imagination and has really starting enjoying school. He even has a couple of friends that we get to hear about each day when we pick him up. I am really looking forward to the next year of raising him.

We celebrated Saturday with a pretty awesome carnival themed birthday party. Everything went great and we were so excited that most of our family joined us for the festivities. Special thanks to Papa Lane for making a cool putting game for the kids to enjoy at the party and that David has been enjoying at home. Here are the pictures:

Best Weekend in a Long Time

Even though it rained most of the weekend, we had a great time. On Friday, after news that one of my deals was not going forward (one that would have kept me working crazy hours through the holidays), Matt and I cut out early and took David to Dave and Busters and then for pizza (at Ovella's- one of our favorite pizza places).  We planned to go to the Rangers game on Saturday, but it got rained out. Instead, we had a great time hanging around the house. Kristen came over and helped me make stuff for David's birthday party (which was so much fun), David took an extra long nap, Matt got to watch some college football and David got lots of time playing with his toys (and helping us with crafts). We had dinner at our favorite vegetarian place and went to bed early. All around a good day. On Sunday morning, we went to the Dallas World Aquarium and had lunch downtown. Unfortunately, that afternoon we had to go to Best Buy to buy a new washing machine to add to our new dryer (purchased last weekend) and new water heater (purchased and installed last Thursday). As much as I could complain about the money pit that is our house, this evening reminded me how much I love living here.  We spent most of our evening out in the cu-de-sac with all the neighborhood kids riding power wheels and playing ball, all of the adults visiting and all of the dogs playing. It is so nice to have such great neighbors.

Monday afternoon playing in the cul-de-sac. We didn't get a picture, but there were 5 kiddos, 2 powered wheels, 3 scooters, two balls and a WHOLE LOT OF FUN. It is so cool that the kids all play together now.

After dinner, David had some chocolate pudding.... no sure if you can tell from his face whether he liked it?
