When The Parents Are Away...

Matt's law firm had a weekend retreat in Austin last weekend, so Granny D came down again to watch David. Here are the pictures from their weekend! Thank you Granny D for watching him. Matt and I had a great time getting away in Austin!

It was a nice break for me before the hellish week that I had. I have worked 20 hours days since Wednesday to close a deal that was suppose to close yesterday, but has now pushed until Monday morning. I am praying that everything goes well because Matt, David and I leave for our Mexico vacation on Monday at noon. We are so so excited!!

Happy Fathers Day

Here are some pics from our Father's Day trip to the Rangers game. David is so lucky to have the absolute best father a kid could ever ask for - We love you, Matt! Happy Father's Day!

Sandbox, Summer and Soccer

Here are some of the things we have been up to:

A few weeks ago, Matt had to go to NYC for a little over a week, so David and I spent lots and lots of time at the park trying to enjoy the last few weeks before the Texas summer heat kicks into full gear.

We went to eat sushi with Aunt Hayley to celebrate her last night in Dallas and after dinner, David decided to jump up on the ledge and start dancing for everyone. He is really starting to come out of his shell and not be so shy anymore.

Also during Matt's absence, I decided to put together the sandbox that I ordered for David online. According to the instructions, it was only suppose to take 1 to 3 hours to construct. Well, 48 hours, two weekends and three major injuries later....we have a sandbox.

David kept himself occupied on the slip-n-slide while I focused on construction.

Here it is.. the fully assembled sandbox.

In other backyard updates, we have a jalapeno pepper. How cool is that, we actually grew something. Now if my tomatoes and cilantro work out, we can make homegrown salsa.

Our season tickets for the Rangers started on Wednesday. David was GREAT. He sit and enjoyed the game for the first few innings, even though there was a little bit of rain, and then played in the kid zone for a while. On Friday, Matt and David went to the game with our neighbors and friends Travis and Lila while I recovered from Lasik (see below). They also had a great time. David and Lila are quite the buds.

We signed David up for a music class a few weeks ago thinking it would be a good indoor summer activity. When we went to the first class, however, we discovered it was pretty boring. I expected the kids would get to run around and play with instruments, but rather the focus was more on listening to sounds and singing, which is just not enough activity for our Saturday mornings.  This picture sums up how David felt about the class. Mom felt about the same way...so we dropped out and joined soccer instead.

We were late in joining the soccer class, so the David's first day was actually the third class for the other kids. He did not seem to be behind - he just jumped right in and started playing.  He is in the same class as Lila and Maddie, so it is pretty cool to watch them all play together.

Here he is carb-loading before the big game:

The kids mainly just run around and kick the balls. They try to teach them techniques, but there is not a lot of focus. David loved it... he was all in on the ball kicking, not sure much on the techniques.

They teach them foot moves by kicking over cones and then learning to set them back up with their feet. David loved this part. In fact, we are going to find some cones for the house as I think this will keep him occupied for hours and hours.

On Friday at 2pm, after much anxiety, I had LASIK surgery on my eyes. As most of you know, Matt had his done last summer. He, however, had a few different procedure and a very difficult recovery. Although I knew my surgery was suppose to be much easier than his, I just could not get over the fear that I would be in pain and out of commission for a week or so. I was completely wrong. The surgery itself only lasted about 10 minutes and, although it was unnerving and surreal, there was absolutely no pain. From the minute I left the surgery center, I could see great (and thanks to the high strength Valium, I felt pretty chill as well). I went home and sleep for a few hours and woke up feeling great. No pain whatsoever!  I went back in for my checkup this morning and have better than perfect vision. It is AMAZING. I am so glad that I got it done.

Here is the sexy mask that I have to sleep in for a few days:

And me on Saturday morning, just 18 hours after surgery. I have to put eye drops in every few hours, but otherwise I am good to go. It is so nice to wake up and be able to see without hunting around for my glasses. I am loving it!!

Hail Update

I thought I would let everyone know that we were incredibly lucky with regard to the hail storm that hit the Lakewood area on Wednesday. We were at the ball game and were so tried when we got home that we all went to bed. We did not even know there had been a hail storm until the next day. Neighbors to every direction around our house (Northpark, Arboretum, lakewood, etc.) suffered severe damage (broken windows, roof damage, leaks, etc.), but somehow our little neighborhood was spared. I don't think we got a single piece of hail and very little rain. Guess that is how Texas gets its reputation for crazy weather.

Take me out to the ball game....

Weekend with Granny D

Matt had a hearing in Las Vegas this past Friday, so I tagged along and we made a weekend trip out of it. We headed out on Thursday night and came back late Saturday, so it was a quick trip, but very nice to get away for a few days. We went to a nice dinner and show on Friday night and I got some time to hang out at the pool on Friday while Matt was working. Granny D was so nice to come down and watch David while we were gone. Thanks again, Granny D - we really appreciate you!

Here are the pictures that Granny D took during the weekend. As you can see, they had lots of fun. David must have had a great time because he has been talking about his Granny D since she left.
