Happy Thanksgiving

We went to OKC to visit Matt's family for Thanksgiving. Between all the visiting and eating, I forgot to take many pictures. Here are the few that I got of our long weekend.

David watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade with Granny D:

Benefits of being the first grandchild - you get served the first plate of Thanksgiving food:

On Friday night, Matt and I left David with Granny D and Papa Bruce for the night. We went to a fancy dinner, stayed at the same hotel we stayed at when we got married and then got up early to go to the OU football game on Saturday.  The Game was cold, but we got lots of warm gear..so it wasn't too bad. The cold weather really makes it feel like the holidays.  It was good to get away and, overall, David did really well on his first overnight stay away from us. Thanks to Granny D and Papa Bruce for watching him and giving us a little break.

On Saturday night, we went to visit Matt's best friend -Jake and his wife, Stacy, and daughter, Caroline. It was a good visit, especially since it has been a while since we saw Caroline. I think the first picture summarizes David's feelings on having another child - he was not a fan of me holding baby Caroline. Every time I would pick her up, he would say "Hold David."

Caroline is such a serious baby in pictures. She would giggle away when we were playing, but then get such a serious face every time we went to take a picture.

On Thursday night, Matt and I went shopping in the early black Friday mess. It was, as expected, craziness. We waited in line at Toys R Us for over 2.5 hours to check out. We did, however, get lots of shopping done and some really good deals. We went ahead and gave David one of his gifts early. Lila has one of these and David LOVES it. We figured it would be good to wear him out (and, for last night, it worked!).

St. James Feast and Happy Birthday to Matt

This past Friday was the Thanksgiving Feast at David's school. The kids dressed up like Pilgrims and Native Americans and put on a little play and the parents were invited to join the kids for lunch. David was a Native America for the play as you might be able to tell from his leather vest. The leather vest was my first real mom project (I even used a pattern) and, although not perfect, it turned out pretty darn cute. I also made him a feather headdress, but he was having nothing to do with putting it on his head. These are the pictures Matt took as I got stuck at work (I know, shocking, right? But it really has been better since I went flex time. We have had dinner together as a family every night since I cut back at work, so I figure missing a small thing here and there is a small price to pay).

My favorite picture is the first one below. Matt was waiting for David in the Parish Hall as the kids came in from their classrooms walking in a line. When David saw Matt, he took off in a sprint toward him. He does this to me everyday when I pick him up from school and it is, by far, the best thing in the world to see him running toward you with a huge smile. Matt handles the drop-off (which, as I have previously blogged about, is not much fun at all) rather than the pick-up, so I am glad he got to experience this.

On Saturday, Aunt Hayley came to babysit and Matt and I drove to Waco to watch the Baylor/OU Game as an early celebration of Matt's birthday (which was Sunday). We went down a little early to get food and see the nieces and nephew. It is actually the longest that Matt and I have ever left David alone for us to go do something together. Of course, he had a big time with Aunt Hayley. They went to the park, went out to a nice dinner and snuggled before bed. We are excited about this coming weekend. Granny D and Papa Bruce are going to keep David on Friday night so Matt and I can have some free time. We are planning to go out to dinner, stay the night at a nice hotel in OKC (the same one we stayed at the night of our wedding), then go to OU game on Saturday morning. It will be the first time for us to leave David overnight.

My brother and sister-in-law went to the game with us.

The band did this big group dance after the traditional marching band performance during half time. Everyone from both bands plus the cheerleaders, flag team girls, twirlers, etc. all went on the field and danced to that popular black-eye peas song. It was quite amusing.

The kids waited up to say good night to us before we headed back to Dallas after the game.

The picture Aunt Hayley and David texted me when David was getting ready for bed.

Parent Teacher Conference and Other Shenanigans

Things have been pretty routine lately. Matt had to go out of town last week for work, so it was just David and I for most of the week. Prior to his departure, we went to David's first parent-teacher conference on Monday morning. Contrary to what we thought, the teachers said David was doing great at school. He supposedly stops crying about 5 minutes after we drop him off and is "really happy" the rest of the day. His report said he is a "natural" in the Montessori environment and the teachers had really complimentary things to say about him and his progress. There are three teachers in David's classroom - the lead, the assistant and a helper. We have not been that fond of the lead teacher since school started. She just didn't seem that interested in the job and David didn't seem to really bond with her. We did, however, love the assistant and the helper teachers and David talks about both of them fondly. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the current assistant teacher, Ms. Coral, has replaced the lead teacher, who left the school last week. Sounds like we were not the only parents that did not care for her (although I never said anything before she left as I didn't want to be "that" parent - guess I should have gone with my gut and spoken up sooner).

When Matt was out of town, David and I went to see Dr. Brown to get David a flu shot. Not only was he awesome during his check-up, he was such a big boy for his flu shot as well. It is amazing how fast he is growing up.

David typically likes cuddling, but the few nights that Matt was out of town, he took over Matt's side of the bed.

Aunt Hayley came over to hang out with us a few nights that Matt was gone. David loves his Aunt Hayley time!

David's personality has really blossomed lately and he is quite the ham.  Here are some of his latest shenanigans:
